Beyond the Beat is the debut album of Arthur Fussy/Modular Synthesizer and Judith Schwarz/Extended Drums. Both make up 2/3 of the group Other:M:Other whose debut album was released on Klanggalerie, and whose second album will follow here soon. Arthur also works a lot for the theatre, and Judith plays in many bands, amongst others Gina Schwarz's Pannonica, Mel*E, PRCDR with Manu Mayr (another Klanggalerie release), ChuffDrone (new album coming on Klang in autumn) and Little Rosies Kindergarten. Beyond the Beat is a rhythmic affair. Where does a bear start? When do the brain and conscience recognize a pattern? How abstract can a beat be to still be recognizable by the listener? Beyond the Beat suggests a minimalist, precise, and investigative approach to the essence of rhythm by exploring abstract pulses, the melodic and groove possibilities of rhythm, and its resonant symbiotic options of acoustic and electronic sounds. Each of the six pieces imagines a distinct, succinct web of beats acting like a live rhythmic organism with an inner logic and momentum of its own.
