After completing her master's degree at the Anton Bruckner Private University in 2018, Judith Schwarz has been working nationally and internationally as a drummer and composer in the field of jazz and improvised music. Judith is active as an instrumentalist, bandleader and composer in the following projects: Other:M:other, chuffDRONE, Beyond the Beat, Little Rosies Kindergarten, Schülande Engaling, Duo Hofmaninger/Schwarz, Mel*E. She has collaborated with Maria Portugal, Sylvie Courvoisier, Angelika Niescier and Peter Ponger. Manu Mayr is a Vienna-born bass player, composer & producer. The exploration and connection of the most diverse sound worlds and their sociotopes can be described as the core of his creative work. In doing so, he deals with the numerous currents of contemporary music creation. From the interpretation of new music to experimental electronics, improvisation, jazz and pop. performing at renowned festivals all over the globe in various contexts as co-leader, solo artist or sideman. He is a founding member of 5K HD, Kompost 3, and member of Synesthetic 4 and Studio Dan. Musik, die mich in Trance versetzt, meine Gefühle steuert, mich zum Passagier macht. Die Klänge werden alle ohne elektronische Veränderung produziert. Dort, wo andere verschiedenste elektronische Gimmicks einsetzen, wird hier einfach der Kreativität Raum gegeben. Kontrabass an allen möglichen Stellen, mit allen möglichen Techniken bespielt, das Drumset innovativst erweitert, außer kleiner Vibratoren, kommt hier nur großartige Spieltechnik zum Einsatz.

The album offers seven free improvised pieces where Schwarz and Mayr sketch and sculpt resonant textures and unpredictable pulses that often sound as if produced by otherworldly, out-of-sync industrial machines, or just morph into an enigmatic, minimalist vibrating entity that echoes and fills the studios space, but still sounds intimate and organic even in its most abstract moments.

Schwarz und Mayr spielen im Duo ihre vielen
Qualitäten eindrucksvoll aus: die erweiterte Perkussion, geschlagen, gestreichelt
oder elegant angetrieben auf der einen Seite, den gezupften und den gestrichenen
Kontrabass, beides massiv und mit oder ohne Drones und markante Verfremdung,
auf der anderen. Viele Charaktere in einem Hörspiel. Und zusammen zeichnen
Manu Mayr und Judith Schwarz neue, noch nicht bekannt gewesene Staatengebilde
auf bislang weiße Flecken der akustischen Landkarte, multiplizieren ihre ohnedies
bemerkenswerten solistischen Vorzüge mal zwei.
